Mission Colorization #35

By Joe DeLise

Circa 1890’s Colorization FROM Mission Bell Tower

A.H. Rogers photo taken from a Mission Bell Tower looking south. Note Lavanderia on the bottom right, and what appears to be the Crocker houses in the center.

Most likely a glass plate camera was used, and imagine carrying the heavy wooden tripod, wood, brass and glass camera up the stairs to take the picture!

Explains why I haven’t seen many photos taken from the towers!

Lighter Kodak “Brownie” film cameras were not introduced until 1900.
