The Santa Barbara photography firm of Hayward & Muzzall was composed of photographers E. J. Hayward (1837-1911) and Henry W. Muzzall (1844-1924). Hayward and Muzzall operated as a partnership from around 1874 to 1883 and primarily produced stereoviews, portraits, and landscapes of Santa Barbara, California, and the vicinity.
On a personal note: I’ve been watching the excavation for Cottage Hospital’s new addition at the corner of Bath and Junipero, and I’ve seen the heavy equipment needed to move the large rocks and boulders that were embedded at the site. Looking at this photo makes me wonder just how the foundation of the Mission was excavated, and by whom!
