Source: Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office

At approximately 9:50 p.m. last night, August 23, 2018, the Los Angeles Police Department advised the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office of an elderly couple reported as missing from the Los Angeles area. The couple, ages 84 and 87, was last seen at approximately 10:00 a.m. and was reported as missing when they did not return from an appointment.

Area Law Enforcement agencies including the California Highway Patrol, Santa Maria Police Department and the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office were alerted by our Dispatch Center who also alerted our local hospitals.

At approximately 11:00 p.m., Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Deputies assigned to the Santa Maria Station found the vehicle and the couple near Betteravia and Highway 101. Both persons were uninjured and taken to the Santa Maria Station where they were fed and waited for family members to pick them up. At approximately 3:00 a.m. the couple was reunited with family and returned home to Los Angeles.

The Sheriff’s Office encourages residents who have a family member who suffers from Dementia, Alzheimer’s, Autism, or any condition where they could wander and get lost, to sign up for Project Lifesaver.
