A minor on an electric scooter was hit by a vehicle in the 3100 block of State Street at 6:18 p.m. on Wednesday.
The teenager was taken to Cottage Hospital with some possibly serious injuries. The driver allegedly got out and stated “are you serious?” to the downed child and then drove up to the next corner, where she apparently jumped out and ran to a home.
A passerby got the Ford’s license plate and immediately called for emergency responders. AMR, SBFD and SBPD arrived in a flash.
The investigation proceeded to figuring out whether the driver had her registration, insurance, and license. She then seemed to have a problem finding a valid license or any other paperwork showing she had a valid license. SBPD searched the vehicle and appeared to take the female driver in to custody.
The condition of the scooter rider is unknown at this time. He was conscious yet did not appear to be able to stand from a sitting position on the ground.
AMR staff were very protective of the area and stated the victim was a minor.

Regardless of fault in accidents like this, with so many high powered scooters and e bikes being ridden by young people who often are recklessly speeding and running stop signs, it is no surprise to me that many more incidents will take place. These high powered vehicles should be required to be insured and their drivers licensed!
This is the second time AMR staff begin to yell at a Me—a member of the press. The female Ambulance driver / Paramedic / EMT yelled Hey! He is a minor, I said got-it” it was on a Public Street, the minor was unatended by a legal-guardian.
The faces were blurred out, the pictures became a form of evidence protected by freedom of speech. The fact that she kept staring at me for at least five minutes was an attempt to intimidate.
10/15/23. At another scene on the on-ramp of NB Carrillo a Motorcyclist was struck and I stopped behind the left shoulder, behind the ambulance. Instead of helping the downed rider, a male EMT began yelling “move-it…you’re blocking traffic!” which was absolutely untrue. The ambulance was blocking the left-lane. SBFD had not yet arrived.
Their job description is not directing traffic, or enforcing laws. AMR needs to educate their employees and have them focus on their main directive. Caring for the person laying on the ground on the side of the freeway, in this case. This was at 4:39 PM on October, 15 2023. “Mean-mugging” the press is definitely outside AMR’s prime directive.
Escalating an argument was being attempted by the female AMR-EMT, it did not work. My “job” was to gather the facts, ONLY this. Sure, I understand it’s-their-patient, and in a way they are a legal-guardian in the absence of these E-Bike and E-scooter and other assorted, unsupervised E-ride collision-casualties. Seventeen-year-olds are learning to become independent.
The need for them to stay focused on their main objective is the main objective. I don’t tell them how to do their job and they should refrain from telling me how to do mine.
Thank You, AMR, for all you do, you do save lives and greatly help the community. And, that is what is important. I honestly, generally do appreciate You.
Good on you for recognizing your first amendment rights.
Poor kid, I hope he is ok!
F150 owners are generally so cocky and act like they own the road.
“I pay for the right to drive like a maniac.”
I hope she gets charged with hit and run, driving negligently, fleeing the scene, child endangerment and all the works. She should do hard time in state prison, not jail with a slap on the wrist and bail.
Sac – None of it is assumption, save for my opinion on my experiences with F-150 drivers. Which I’m entitled to, just as you have your opinions.
Her not being at the scene when the police arrive makes it a hit and run. The other charges are well deserved for someone who would hit and run a child.
Are you that desperate to contend with me that you will pretend not to have understood my comment?
And you have the audacity to call me a troll.
“And you have the audacity to call me a troll.” – No other way to define someone who comments as you do.
I find it interesting some people/person always have time to comment. This is good, to a certain point. But for me, a person, continually, day after day, hammering away at other commenters is annoying. So, I simply read past some comments to avoid negative replies and a headache.
DOULIE – great contribution. Thanks for that. Maybe you should just keep reading past, huh? Just like the old site, no one is forcing you to read anyone’s comments.
Cut off my 7:28 comment too soon. Have a great day and enjoy your Veterans Day weekend.
Ownership and negligent driving = assumptions. Just pointing it out, as you do this all the time. It’s best to wait for the facts before you convict and sentence people online.
Umm yeah sac, negligence is at play if you hit a child with a truck and then leave the scene.
Are you defending the driver, or just picking a fight “as you do this all the time?”
SBTONER – “Umm yeah sac, negligence is at play if you hit a child with a truck and then leave the scene.”- Ummm actually, not necessarily. Leaving the scene is a separate charge (criminal law) commonly called “hit and run.” Just the fact that a person is hit by a car isn’t always negligence, it depends on the facts. If the scooter came out of nowhere while the car driver was driving lawfully, it might not be negligence on the part of the driver. That is up to a jury to decide when given the facts. Now, that is simplified civil negligence, which would have to be brought by the family, not the DA and you don’t go to prison for civil negligence. Now, on the other hand, criminal negligence requires a much higher degree of negligence activity to amount to a chargeable offense. Again, facts are required.
Just trying to point out the problem in demanding prison time for negligence at this point. Not trying to start a fight, so simmer down Simon.

Absolutely dumbest thing anyone ever has posted here. Tiny trophy for you here princess.

Geo – I believe that’s actually an “oxymoron”? -> Anonymous Author 🙂
I read a more detailed account of this incident on Noozhawk. The scooter rider was riding eastbound in the crosswalk and assuming he was coming from the sidewalk (or riding against traffic in the street) either way he was riding illegally. I feel for the truck driver – any of us could have hit the scooter, especially as one second they aren’t there and the next they are right in front of you at 20 mph. Kid should have been cited as well, IMO.
