I went in to 7-11 this morning to buy some beer and noticed the shelves and fridges were empty save for the 7-11 brand snacks. I didn’t see the slurped machines but not surprised if they were empty too.
I asked the cashier and he said they got looted! High school kids did a flash mob it sounds like, I don’t know if the store was closed due to staffing issues or if they just ran in and overwhelmed the place during hours. Apparently the location will be closed permanently as of 12/05.
Defund the police and that’s what you get !
Elect D.A. who put the crooks back out on the street, so that they can recommit more crimes and that’s what you get !
And it’s only going to get much worse in the area.
Lack of critical thinking and susceptible to misinformation and these are the kinds of comments you get!
What misinformation? His/her comments simply reflect common sense based on everyday observations in our society today.
Sigh. Here we go again. You are simply misrepresenting and completely misunderstanding the meaning of defund the police. Defund the police does not take money away from policing CRIMES. It redirects money to social workers, crisis teams, etc., to deal with non-crime related responses. It frees up police to deal with crimes. Defunding the police means they actually have GREATER ability to respond quickly. While you may not have quite connected the dots yet, your desires are actually in support of defunding the police.
@ A-166 Oh Sigh is right…! You have a delusional view of policing based on someone who has never been on the street… I suggest you run your “law enforcement theories” by someone who is a professional law enforcement officer. When New York City crime was out of control in the early 1990’s , Giuliani and Chief Bratton started an aggressive policing policy of “broken windows”…. IT WORKED. Woke politicians and ACLU card holders should have little to any POV on policing at this point in time.
This is a flat out lie ! There was no police defunding. In fact,it was the opposite. Try turning of fox misinformation channel and get off facebook
SBM : You obviously don’t like it and are trying to retropedal but the whole mantra of the left has been “Defund the police” since 2020 !
7124 : Try to understand the meaning of the words you read : DEFUND means exactly that ! If you and your likes meant to say something else : you should have said it!
Words are clear : Defund means Defund and nothing else !
Spin spin spin… they were very clear defund meant exactly defund when they pushed it. It was only later they tried pivot “we didn’t really mean defund literally…”, yes they did Don’t re write history.
The sky is falling! It’s all Obama’s fault! Lmao
“the whole mantra of the left has been “Defund the police” since 2020 !” – no it hasn’t. That’s not the “whole mantra” of anyone other than a minority fringe group that doesn’t represent all Democrats. Aren’t you and VOICE always here complaining about how some paint all Republicans with a broad brush?
Pot meet kettle, rules for thee but not for me…. remember?
VOR, doesn’t it make sense to operate on CURRENT meaning of a movement?
I’ll be okay lol good luck to you all. Silly silly voters.
Diverting means less cops, more social workers. There’s only so much money in the kitty.
You are obfuscating the meaning. Yes, there may be slightly fewer cops, but the cop:crime ratio will be much higher. So still, the result is that you get greater, faster, and more focused response to crime. It is too bad they chose the name “defund the police” as the motto, because the benefits of moving both money and responsibilities around actually benefits everyone, including those who want more police response to criminal activity.
5:18 I’ve connected the dots and it leads me to see tents on ours coast and streets, flash mobs, violent assaults, aggressive panhandling, home robbery, drug-,theft , assault etc… you people are completely mad if you think this is a good strategy.
You think defunding the police caused THAT? Try again, look into capitalism.
A crime happened. It has nothing to do with “Defunding the Police”. If it was a high school flash mob, review the security video with the high school principals, or counselors, to determine who was involved. Then prosecute them! What is happening to our society????
Agree! Find out who they are, charge them, the example is important to set. When you have a society that allows behavior like this then it is the behavior we will see… limits are needed, many people push until the find the limit and if they can get what they want without working for it why bother working?
“save for the 7-11 brand snacks”…… “the location will be closed permanently as of 12/05.” – So, do you really think a mob of “high school kids” “looted” the place, taking ONLY brand name items and no 7-11 brand items and then it was NEVER reported in the news any where? Or…… is it more likely the clerk was joking and the place is closing (as the OP noted) so they only have 7-11 items being stocked by the franchise, as they cut ties with the other brands due to the upcoming closure?
Come on folks….
It is no longer illegal to steal if the incident is less than $950.
So no point in “wasting” time to pull footage And no point in notifying principals & the world.
Until crime is made illegal this is the norm.
Gas station stores are looted everyday by homeless stealing chips , drinks, etc.
The kids & others are taking money from the business but our government says it’s ok.
Let’s all get along? How about not spreading misinformation? Proposition 47 did not end the prosecution of thefts under $950 in California.

I am wondering if the article headline meant to say Santa Barbara. Don’t think there is a Milpas street in Santa Maria is there?
Does anyone have confirmation that this was in fact a raid by a mob? Or can we just go on with our opinion offering without knowing what really happened? What we start with is hearsay gossip which seems contradicted by another piece of the same.
Milpas and the east side have become armpit of end-stage capitalism. It’s only the fault of the rich white nihilism of Santa Barbara. You can only thank the GOP.
Just for the record, the “defund the police” movement and slogan was not embraced by most left-leaning people. Obviously the slogan is bad and misleading. Sure, there are some people who want to disband law enforcement entirely. But very few. Most of us want effective, fair policing. We don’t want people killed by police for minor infractions. And we don’t want to coddle criminals, but we want rehabilitation when it’s possible. Put more money into effective K-12 education so we can put less into prisons.
Then walk up to the store and ask. If you really trust the news / local police reporting system to cover everything then go ahead and turn a blind eye. There is a lot more crime going on in SB than many realize.
This reminds me of Milpas in the early 1980s: high endless crime. The Eastside Society, businesses, neighbors, and others have made impressive improvements over the last two decades.
I encourage all Eastside and neighboring residents of Eucalyptus Hill/ and West Montecito to continue to support the Eastside Society. https://sbeastside.org/homeless/
Volunteer or send a check to the Eastside Society. The Board is proactive and responsive. Without communication, information, outreach, coordination our part of town can easily return to how it was.
A loud shout out of THANKS to all neighbors and businesses who stepped up and continue to make the Eastside safer and a wonderful community by not staying on the sidelines, and to Eastside Society for its leadership.
