The scooter rider who was killed in a hit-and-run traffic collision on February 24 in downtown Santa Barbara, has been identified as Dane Angus.
Angus’ employer, Pure Joy Catering, is hosting a public memorial this coming Friday.
The Santa Barbara Police Department announced two people were arrested in connection with Angus’ death. Police have yet to release more information surrounding their investigation but have stated Angus was found around 2:00 a.m. in the intersection East Cota Street and Santa Barbara Street following a collision with a vehicle. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene.
Officers who first arrived on the scene began life-saving measures until the Santa Barbara Fire Department and paramedics arrived. Sadly, Angus was pronounced deceased. He was 31-years-old.
A public memorial for Angus will take place at East Beach on Friday, March 1, at 5:00 p.m.
“Dane Angus’s vibrant spirit touched the lives of so many and left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him. His dedication and passion made him a true Navy Seal of Hospitality,” wrote Pure Joy Catering.
Angus worked for the company since 2016 as their Production & Design Manager.
“We are so grateful Dane chose to spend so much of his short adult life with us, bringing joy to thousands of people, and creating countless memories for his clients, guests, and his coworkers, at nearly a thousand Pure Joy spectacular events that he was fully responsible for,” the company stated.
According to Angus’ bio on the catering website, he loved to go to the beach with his dog Russ and enjoys backpacking, camping, and making soy wax candles.
“A fun fact about me is that I was born on the tropical island of Okinawa, Japan and have degrees in Film & Media and Geography from UCSB, one day in the future I would love to be on assignment for National Geographic filming nature documentaries for future generations to enjoy,” he wrote.
The memorial will take place at Angus’ favorite beach to honor and celebrate his life.
“Together, let us reminisce, share stories, and embrace the joyous memories Dane has left us with. Your presence would mean the world to us as we come together to celebrate the life of Dane Angus,” wrote Pure Joy Catering.
