Patras, Greece is one of seven Santa Barbara Sister Cities. The local Patras Sister Cities Group aims to promote people to people relations through mutual respect, understanding and cooperation. Recently they held fundraising for a children’s hospital in Patras.
I don’t know if “free” is the word. If there is a trip you can bet someone’s going to pay for it. Wanna bet it’s the taxpayers?
@REX- Exactly.
Newest….OK but happened in 2010, so really just another photo for Kathy.
Does this mean the Mayor or a council member gets a free trip to Greece…?
It is silly stuff for elitists to play at. There is no value in this sort of thing and there is the risks that smug SB people and smug Patras people patronize the real folks and create problems where none exist. Really, what possible things do the populations of these two places have in common other than being near the sea? It is a minor version of the Davalos nonsense. Rich people planning their future.
Just curious – why do we need so many “sister” cities? Wouldn’t one be sufficient?
“Anyone wanting to go on a sister city trip has to RAISE THE FUNDS just like anyone else . . . ” Exactly. Not “PAY FOR” the trip.
Really? Patras a sister city? We stayed one night there travelling Greece and found it to be an old gritty port city not worth more than a one night stay quite frankly. Who decides this sister city nonsense?
