Day 20 Answer
Here we are folks, the last photo reveal of March Edness for this year. This small mosaic has a historical reference and is something many of you probably drive by weekly. That is, if you shop at the Trader Joe’s on De La Vina.
This mosaic can be found on the building of 3030 De La Vina Street. This building was the original Santa Barbara City Fire Station #4 from 1924 to 1985 until the crew transferred to the current at 19 N Ontare Road.
The city’s Housing Authority acquired the decommissioned fire station in 1989 and remodeled the building into a dormitory style living facility to be used as a transitional housing and life training facility for families transitioning from homelessness into the community’s workforce and rental market.
Now dubbed “The Firehouse,” it has five private family rooms, a communal dining room, and living room. It has a conditional use permit allowing occupancy up to 19 persons. The Housing Authority has leased the Firehouse from the onset to Transition House, who operates the facility as transitional housing for its formerly homeless client families.
