On Friday, June 29, 2018, at about 10:22 p.m., Sheriff’s Deputies from the Goleta Patrol Bureau responded to the railroad tracks near Patterson Avenue and Highway 101 for a report of a man that had been stabbed at a transient encampment. Upon their arrival, the deputies were guided to the injured man who was still at the camp adjacent the railroad tracks. The deputies then found the 29-year-old victim with a severe laceration to his abdomen. The deputies immediately rendered aid to the man until medical personnel arrived. Medical personnel took over care of the victim and transported him to a local hospital where he underwent emergency surgery. The victim’s condition is unknown; however, he is expected to survive.
While speaking with the victim at the scene, he told deputies that he had been sleeping and he did not know who attacked him. Other persons at the camp provided statements to the deputies, but no suspect was found. The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating this crime.
