He has been arrested. His name is Cyrus McClain, and he is an out of state sbcc student. When can we as a community put our foot down and hold sbcc accountable for their students and force them to care about us as a community rather than money from these out of district, out of state, and out of the country students? When is enough enough?
Turns out this POS is another one of SBCC’s transplant students here to play soccer…
He was trespassing, got in a fight with a guy and stabbed the guy’s girlfriend.? Another “brave” punk.
They did not catch the guy I was referring too; I checked with the sheriff office. Anymore insightful defenses of the criminal element.
This guy looks like, and I’ll bet he is, the burglary suspect that the police asked the community to help find featured on 11 Feb in Edhat. It was an I.V. burglary on the 800 block of Camino Del Sur. I’m sure a number of people must of recognized him, and did nothing. I guess people wait for more serious crimes like attempted murder which is what he should have been charged with.
Thanks SBCC! I agree that 100% acceptance rate needs to be reigned in. Accepting all students from anywhere and everywhere eats up housing and continuously wreaks havoc.
Stop luring these uncontrolled numbers into this “small coastal community” (as per Anthony Beebe). SBCC advertises and entices SBCC students to live with UCSB students in Isla Vista. At a minimum, housing is sucked away from UCSB students and their facilities are taken advantage of ( Rec Cen and sport teams). Of more concern, is the crime and physical danger.
Funny, in their ad, they chide UCSB for their research based education, verses SBCC’s superior student based education, while proudly touting the automatic UCSB acceptance in the same breath.
SBCC’s policy to encourage out of state enrollment is only peripherally related to this incident. People jumping on that bandwagon give off the whiff of racism. The bigger issue in my mind is that California law allows any California resident to enroll at any community college. We have seen that SBCC gets an unusually large amount of out of district students who are often supported by families that think they are sending their child “off to college” when they enroll in SBCC. Too often these kids decide to reside in Isla Vista to partake of its party scene and they are tempted into disastrous lifestyle choices and unthoughtout behaviors. SBCC could control some of this by reducing the amount of classes it offers and giving priority to early enrollees from local schools.
HORSEGIRL- Are you serious? Some of the most criminal and evil people in our community were UCSB students. Think David Attias for one. Are you really that prejudice against SBCC that you completely ignore the fact that a huge percentage of UCSB students are “out of district, out of state, and out of the country students?” Kind of lame to blame SBCC……… oh especially because NOTHING suggests the perp went to SBCC. smh.
Am I the only one who doesn’t see any information about where this guys went tp school? Why all the blame on SBCC? If you armchair investigators know somethimg more about this cretin than the police do, perhaps you should be helping the investigation instead of blaming SBCC for something they had no hand in.
How does this differ from complaining about out of state students as well? I also included my dislike of out of district (which is within the state) and the out of country students (many of which are from Sweden and other Northern European countries), none of which is based in racism but in frustration for the lack of housing, lack of parking for locals to enjoy the beach, lack of focus on helping our local students achieve higher education, etc
His Facebook profile lists sbcc as his school
And also shows that he is from wisconsin
Like I said above, his profile on Facebook shows that he did from Wisconsin and attends sbcc. Yes, UCSB has its share of bad seeds, but the problem I have is that sbcc continues to shove these kinds of things under the rug, takes no responsibility for anything that happens in Isla Vista, and continues to expand unchecked and ignores us as a community – not enough classes for our local students and downsizing the adult education.
Sbcc is a community college which is supposed to be for local students, UCSB is a world renowned research university. Yes I have a problem with UCSB expanding a bit too much but they at least build housing for their students, and the out of state and international students are generally very serious about their education considering how hard it is for out of state students to be accepted into the school
Horsegirl, sorry I have better things to do than researching criminals so I can take advantage of an opportunity to show my prejudice. Good job though Super Sleuth! But you fail to acknowledge UCSB’s out of town population and history of criminal students. Try again.
you’re right, I really shouldn’t spend a whole 10 seconds looking this guy up. prejudice has nothing to do with it – just frustration. UCSB’s out of town population isn’t the issue considering there is a selective application process, they build housing for their students, and hold them accountable for their actions. am I not allowed to be frustrated with the fact that sbcc is bringing in all these out of district students and overextending their reach and forgetting about us as a community? local students have a hard time getting the classes they need due to everything filling up too quickly and they have completely decimated their adult ed offerings. yeah, Im frustrated
