On May 15, 2019 at approximately 5 A.M. a man in his thirties was walking in the 500 block of Chapala Street. He was verbally confronted by a male suspect, now identified as Terrence Roberson, a 34 year old male. A confrontation ensued in which Roberson shot the victim with a firearm.
The victim sought help in a nearby lobby when Roberson fled the scene. Police were dispatched to the scene.
As officers saturated the area to set up a perimeter, Santa Barbara Police Dispatch broadcast the subject description.
Officers spotted Roberson in the First Block of East Cota Street. Multiple Officers were able to safely detain and ultimately arrest Roberson who was still armed.
The investigation remains ongoing. The victim, whose identification will not be released, is expected to survive.
Santa Barbara Police are investigating a shooting that took place in the 500 block of Chapala early Wednesday morning.
Reports came in around 5:00 a.m. with two people getting into a fight and one person ultimately being shot.
SBPD reports the victim is expected to survive and the shooter has been apprehended.

Not only can they illegally purchase one but they can steal guns too as there have been guns taken in burglaries in the city as well as the county in recent months.

Here is the relevant law: “Purchasers of handguns must provide proof of California residency, such as a utility bill, residential lease, property deed, or government-issued identification (other than a driver license or other DMV-issued identification), and either (1) possess a Handgun Safety Certificate (HSC) plus successfully complete a safety demonstration with their recently purchased handgun or (2) qualify for an HSC exemption.”

Vagrants and drug addicts living in the near by bushes, creeks and railroad tracks.

We need gun possession to be a heck of a lot more “well regulated”, that’s for sure.
What if people had to sign and show ID to get rounds?
Strict regulations on ammunition and reloading components would help in the long run.
TLUVADUCK, that law requiring signage, ID,a background check and a permit to buy ammo is already coming into effect staewide on January 1, 2020; Los Angeles county already requires ID, and signing for ammo purchases. These do nothing to stop criminals from getting guns and ammo but have already and will continue to make it more difficult and expensive for law abiding gun owners to purchase ammo. What makes so many of you think any of these laws will stop some one who is a criminal, has no respect for laws and other’s lives, and no fear of the law? It certainly didn’t stop Roberson, or Alvarez at Positano Apartments. BOSCO states that “every gun made was legally obtained at some point.” That is not correct as most guns used in crime were NOT legally obtained. Yes, certain countries require registration and inspection, but we already have that here, and all weapons happen to require approval on the CA DOJ list of “approved weapons”. How many criminals do you think or will register their guns, take a handgun safety course, use an “approved weapon”, and have them inspected regularly? And if we “stop flooding the country with guns” they will just get into criminal hands via Mexico or other illegal means. It’s also interesting to note that states and counties with reasonably obtainable Open Carry or Concealed Weapon permit systems have far fewer murders than states such as California, New York, Illinois, and others that do not. Also interesting to note that most peace offers prefer it if citizens do possess weapons and the means to defend themselves.
Bigone – You should check your data sources. More guns equate to more death in any state where studies have been done, NRA propaganda notwithstanding.
OCEANDREW @ 9:55, I am not sure what you are talking about here in California. No seller that I have ever done business with at a show would sell a firearm to someone that didn’t have to go through all of the legal requirements, transfer through a FFL holder, do a background check, etc. Try to purchase a firearm, high capacity magazine, etc in other state gun shows and when they ask what state you live in NONE will even want to talk to you if you are from California. Perhaps you’ve gone to more gun shows than I have and purchased some firearms illegally so speak from experience.
California has more gun laws than any state other than New York. Please tell me one that has stopped a criminal from using a firearm. To quote the saying that was used a lot in the 70s, “When the gun is outlawed, only the outlaw will have guns.”
Lina, agreed but your statements indicate that lawbreakers and criminals don’t obey laws and never will. As far as gun laws go, most of them only penalize law abiding gun owners due to fees, taxes, cost of permits, etc. Yes, of course, we all want to make it harder for the mentally ill and criminals to obtain and use a gun, but in reality that is almost impossible no matter how many laws are in place. Statistics vary a bit depending on source and whether it’s a local, regional, or national study but about 90% of homicides and other violent crimes committed with guns are obtained illegally or stolen and laws aren’t doing anything to stem that fact. Just sayin’.
Every Gun made was legally obtained at some point in time. It’s too easy in this country for a gun to eventually make it’s way to the streets. You’re right that criminals will find ways to get guns. But, how are they getting them in the first place? Some countries require guns be registered and inspected regularly. Similar laws in the US would make it much more difficult for criminals to get their hands on illegal guns in the first place. This is a complicated issue, but we as a nation need to address the fact that by flooding the country with guns, we have made it significantly easier for the wrong people to get their hands on them illegally. The trade-off of giving more good people guns is going to be more bad people with guns. Unfortunately, I would argue that more bad people having guns is much worse for our society than more good people having guns. I think the murder statistics in some parts of the nation would support that.
FITNESS1… I’m sure you’ve been to a gun show and you’ve seen the number of transactions taking place that are not subject to the kind of due diligence and oversight that gun stores are.

Oh, the whinning and complaining, screeching and moaning – you’d think they were being forced to send their women to marry into religions and races they despise. Gun violence is no longer about the 2nd Amend. but “stand[ing] your ground” and “fear[ing] for your life” giving everyone with a gun the right to kill. #MAGA, baby
