Low Cachuma Lake Levels

By an edhat reader

This photo (above) was taken from the boat (without zoom lens) on October 3, 2017 at Lake Cachuma.  Notice the little guy walking towards me, that’s my husband coming down the path to the boat launch – which is where we launched.  This was the bottom of the lake – underwater. This launch was made when the dam was being built.  Up on top of the hill is the parking lot for the marina.  This was all underwater up to the top of the hill – trees are where the parking lot for the marina is.

This is looking up at the Yurts (round tents) that are available to rent.  The water is usually up to the trees on the left….parking lot for marina.  The Ranger said the lake is at 40% capacity.

But, the Park Host, who cuts off your Quarantine Cable (hooks boat to trailer so you can’t take it in another lake) says he has never before seen the cement ramp that we used and he has been there 40 years.  It just recently became visible.

The narrows that you usually catch fish in were all dry with weeds growing.  Actually, there were weeds showing in the lake – had to stay in the middle.  Seemed like there should have been fish unless they let them all out to Lompoc, when they let the water out.
