A Cabrillo High School student has been arrested for possession of a handgun on campus.
On Thursday, March 28, at approximately 12:12 pm, School Resource Deputy Dunn at Cabrillo High School contacted 18-year-old student Jesus BarajasLemus in the school office for a probation search and found him in possession of a loaded handgun that is not registered to him.
BarajasLemus was arrested and will be booked at the Northern Branch Jail. His bail amount and booking charges are pending.
Cabrillo High School was not asked to take any protective measures as the student was arrested contemporaneous to the discovery of the handgun.
SRD Dunn has been working together with Cabrillo School Administration on this case in a continued effort to ensure the safety of the students and staff.
There are no additional campus safety concerns directly related to this incident.
Answer could be 1) protection, 2) crime and/or desire to graduate to the penitentiary: gangbanging, 3) because it’s “cool” 4) idiocy. Also interesting to note that it was a probation related search of an 18 year old. Not sure why that wouldn’t force the individual into alternative (adult) school and away from 14 and 15 year olds who share the high school campus. Prima facie evidence of the need and utility of the SROs (despite the woke hating) on the school campuses – keeping everyone safe. It should also be noted that the Carp incident a few weeks ago also involved a pro active SRO.
Darn…all of those are definitely possibilities…I just can’t help thinking about how unfortunate this may or may not be…as a mama I’m absolutely heartbroken and terrified. For everyone, no matter what the situation… he’s still just a kid at high school, way too young to be going through whatever things brought him to this level… I hope he gets help… I’m so grateful to the deputy who caught this… but especially if that was just a scared kid who got his hands on something he shouldn’t have. Because fear can make you do stupid things…anyway, I’ll stop ranting. Glad everyone is okay. 💞
LONGTIMESB1 – absolutely. The SROs are critical. I’m often labeled as “woke,” (which I wear as a badge of honor as it means to be aware of the struggles of others that are different from you) but I fully support this.

COAST – That doesn’t seem to be the correct question here. Plus, how do you know what his motives were? He’s 18, his parentS (again with a racist assumption) have no legal culpability here, unless it was their gun.
