Santa Barbara County District Attorney Joyce E. Dudley announced [Friday] that a felony complaint has been filed against Raymond Ramon Vega, 25, of Lompoc, California. Mr. Vega is charged with murder in violation of Penal Code section 187 and two counts of attempted murder in violation of Penal Code sections 664/187 in connection with the October 12, 2019, shooting that resulted in the death of Erik Vargas, 15, of Lompoc, and injuries to two other individuals. In addition, it is alleged that the murder was committed for the benefit of, at the direction of, or in association with a criminal street gang in violation of Penal Code section 186.22(b)(1), and also that a principal in the offense discharged a firearm resulting in great bodily injury and death in violation of Penal Code section 12022.53 (d)/(e).
Mr. Vega appeared in the Lompoc Superior Court this afternoon, where his arraignment was continued until November 1, 2019, by Judge Montes De Oca. Bail was set at $2,000,000.00.
