Sheriff’s deputies have arrested a Lompoc man for an assault with a deadly weapon in Vandenburg Village. On Thursday, August 26, 2021 at approximately 5:09 p.m., deputies responded to the 600-block of Moonglow Road for a report of a brandishing that had just occurred. When they arrived, deputies learned that 50-year-old Daniel Donnelly had driven to the residence, parked in the driveway and confronted the victim at the front of the residence with wild accusations. Donnelly threatened the victim, drew a handgun and pointed it at the victim. Donnelly then fled the scene in his car, nearly hitting he victim and sideswiping a parked car before returning to his residence in the 600-block of Carina Drive.

Deputies set up a perimeter around the Carina Drive address and requested the assistance of a Sheriff’s K9 unit, and the Special Enforcement Team. Deputies made several attempts to contact Donnelly to have him surrender peacefully, to no avail. Deputies authored a search and arrest warrant for Donnelly and his residence, which was approved by the on-call judge. At approximately 11:54 p.m., deputies made entry into Donnelly’s home, but did not find him inside. Deputies recovered a loaded, un-serialized “ghost gun” inside the residence that is believed to have been the one that Donnelly pointed at his neighbor.

On Friday, August 27, 2021 at approximately 8:21 a.m., deputies were dispatched to the Carina Drive address when neighbors reported seeing Donnelly in the area. Deputies contacted Donnelly and took him into custody on the outstanding Ramey warrant.
