Lompoc Apartment Fire Displaces Twenty People on Wednesday

A structure fire in a Lompoc apartment building displaced twenty people early Wednesday morning.

At 3:57 a.m., Santa Barbara County, Lompoc City, and Vandenberg firefighters responded to the 3900 block of Mesa Circle Drive in Vandenberg Village for a report of a large structure fire.

When crews arrived a 2nd alarm response was initiated as four separate apartment units were involved in the fire and the entire building required evacuation.

Firefighters were able to knock down the fire at 4:40 a.m.

The fire was called in by a resident of the apartment building who had a working smoke detector.

There were no injuries reported although a total of twenty people and six animals are displaced, 18 adults, 2 children, 5 dogs, and 1 cat.

The Red Cross arrived to assist families with accommodations.

Resources remained on the scene for mop-up operations. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
