Loma Alta Drive to Reopen on May 5

By the City of Santa Barbara

The City of Santa Barbara’s Street Operations Division will reopen Loma Alta Drive between Cornel Street and West Cannon Perdido Street to vehicular traffic Friday, May 5th. 

The road will remain open for an estimated six months.  Loma Alta Drive may be closed periodically in the future in preparation for storm related events.

  1. It seemed more appropriate to limit risk after 20+ people died following the Thomas Fire and Montecito Mudflows. If your neighbors house was crushed by a falling tree one day and you have a similar looking tree above your house would you feel the same after seeing your neighbors house crushed?

  2. I think closing Loma Alta was the right decision. While no catastrophe occurred, amount of nuisance mud/dirt that came down the hill this winter would have made it a constant chore to maintain. I did enjoy riding my bike along the road while it was closed, but was nice to be able to drive along it this morning. Can’t beat that view of the mountains.
