Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Deputy Bill Coffman, a U.S. Army veteran and former Green Beret, had the honor of parachuting over Normandy, France for the 75th anniversary of D-Day on June 6.
“We are very proud of Deputy Coffman, not only for his role in honoring our D-Day heroes, but his prior Military Service, and his continued dedication to service of the citizens of Santa Barbara County,” wrote the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office (SBSO).
The Normandy landings on D-Day were operations that took place on Tuesday, June 6, 1944 as part of the Allied invasion of Normandy in Operation Overlord during World War II.
Coffman was the first to jump in a historic 75yh anniversary demonstration in Normandy. He met 97-year-old World War II veteran and airborn soldeier who actually jumped on D-Day, Tom Rice.
Below the men are standing in front of Sainte-Mere Eglise, the famous spot where a paratrooper’s parachute got caught during the D-Day battle.
