Local Search & Rescue Team Assist Mono County Avalanche Response

Source: Santa Barbara County Sheriff Search & Rescue

Earlier [Saturday] and a fair distance away from Santa Barbara, a couple of team members were in the area and offered up assistance to Mono County Search and Rescue during an avalanche incident inside the ski area boundaries of the Mammoth Mountain ski area in the Inyo National Forest.

Reports are that the avalanche began above the Upper Dry Creek area and continued down the mountain into the Lower Dry Creek and Chair 5 area. Early reports were of partial burials and self-escape and no outstanding missing persons, more information will follow on local news outlets in the coming hours and days. Team members were available to assist with search operations and any search management needed during the incident. Our team members were released later in the afternoon hours.

If you didn’t know, Santa Barbara County Search and Rescue is a Mountain Rescue Association Type I team and trains in multiple disciplines including snow/ice search and rescue incidents.
