On November 24, 2017, at approximately 10:25 P.M., a life threatening injury traffic collision occurred on SR-154 westbound, just east of Stagecoach Road. The collision involved only one vehicle; a 2000 Chevrolet Tahoe. The driver, Mr. Arnulfo Garcia-Soriano of Santa Barbara, allowed the Chevrolet to travel off westbound SR-154 and directly into a tree. After the collision, the Chevrolet became disabled and was partially blocking the westbound traffic lane closest to the road edge. Mr. Garcia-Soriano sustained major injuries and his passenger sustained life threatening injuries as a result of the collision.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP), Santa Barbara County Fire Department (SBCFD), and American Medical Response (AMR) responded to the collision scene.
AMR transported both occupants to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital for medical treatment. The passenger’s name is currently being withheld.
Mr. Garcia-Soriano was arrested for a violation of Section 23153(f) of the California Vehicle Code -DUI Drugs.
The CHP closed the right lane on SR-154 westbound, for approximately 3 hours, to investigate the traffic collision and remove the Chevrolet.
This traffic collision remains under investigation.
