The Coroner’s Bureau is releasing the name of the diver who passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2023, at San Miguel Island.
Deceased is 59-year-old Richard Toledo of Santa Barbara. Cause and manner of death are pending- no signs of foul play.

I’m curious if anyone has more information about a Santa Barbara diver that passed away near the Channel Islands on Thursday.
Apparently it was during a commercial fishing operation but it doesn’t seem to be reported on the news.

Walking along the harbor on Thursday evening I saw SBPD, Harbor Patrol, US Coast Guard, and US Park Police all congregated at the boat launch. I cannot confirm what happened but usually the story will appear, just allow some time .
RIP Richard. He also made deliveries for the SB Fish Co. I heard through a friend that he was urchin diving off the islands and had issues with his weight belt ultimately sinking him to the bottom. Sad indeed, good guy.
