I went on several walks along Hdendry’s Beach this long weeked and noticed a lot of lobster traps washed on shore.
There had to be at least a dozen of them scattered along the cliff base.

Why would you recommend calling a nonprofit to clean up after the California Commercial Lobster Fishery?? Pretty obvious to the adults in the room the Fishery needs to clean the beaches of traps.
After the big storms in the winter there were dozens of traps on the beach there. If they have ID tags, the fishermen who own them should be responsible for collecting them.
How about the beachwalkers who see these traps take charge and remove them, rather than expecting someone else to do so?!
I’d rather have the original owners pick them up.
Let the commercial fishermen know.

They do remove them. But most of the time some part of the trap is buried. Making them stuck unless you had tools on your beachwalk to remove them.
If there are this many on the beach imagine how many derelict traps are on the ocean floor…
There are over 6500 Commercial Lobster Traps lost each season here in California… they are EVERYWHERE under the water here in California, I see them nearly EVERY time I go scuba diving.
A volunteer coastal cleanup event is happening soon so these will be gone by the end of the month.

If you think they are bad at Hendry’s, this past summer I spent 8 days kayaking around Santa Rosa Island, slept on 7 different beaches and EVERY beach I camped on was littered with California Commercial Lobster Traps… EVERY BEACH!!
Santa Rosa Island is part of our Channel Islands National Park and the California Commercial Lobster Fishery has no regard to clean up after themselves out there… NONE, in my 20 years here in town, I’ve never heard of the California Commercial Lobster Fishery cleaning the beaches of Santa Rosa Island. What a disgraceful group of lazy, greedy people!!
@ DIVER805- As a diver, YOU sound like the “dive-KOOK” who, instead of taking responsibility, you’d rather throw out names to someone who has a legit concern… As a diver myself, I respect the ocean and watch how it’s managed- you should as well.
