Linden and Casitas Pass Traffic Delays

Construction Update
Timeframe:  April 8 – 14, 2018 (weather dependent)

Casitas Pass Road Overcrossing

• Traffic was shifted onto the new bridge and the pedestrian temporary walkway was opened at the end of March. Please be mindful of the new traffic patterns and pedestrians crossing on the ARCO side of the street when driving in the area.

• Utility ducts were installed through the new overcrossing. Crews will continue to create the wood forms and then install the steel for the bridge deck.
• For the retaining wall on the ocean-side of the Linden Avenue Overcrossing, work continues on rebar installation and concrete pours for the internal supports of the wall.

Via Real

• Via Real Bridge over Carpinteria Creek
  • Work continues on the new safety barrier on the ocean side of the bridge. 
  • The new water line was installed through the bridge.
• The new sidewalk along the Via Real connection to Casitas Pass Road was opened at the end of March. Please be mindful of ongoing construction work in the areas around the sidewalk and bike path connections between Via Real and Casitas Pass Road. 

Highway 101

• Bridges over Carpinteria Creek
  • The old southbound Highway 101 bridge was removed ahead of schedule to improve water flow in the creek and prevent freeway flooding in large storms.
  • Grading for the side supports (abutments) for the next stage of bridge construction is complete.  The soil will be in a settlement period over the next month.  
• Work resumes on installing wood forms, rebar, and pouring concrete for the retaining wall on southbound Highway 101 between Linden Avenue and Casitas Pass Road.
• Drainage and irrigation work continues for the new on and off-ramps at Casitas Pass Road, median, shoulder areas, and along Casitas Pass Road near the construction yard.

Upcoming Work: spring/summer

• As early as April 16th, the segment of Via Real between Casitas Pass Road and Hales Lane will be closed for up to 1 month.  Improvements in this area will prepare for the upcoming Via Real connection up to Linden Avenue. A detour will be available for access to northbound Highway 101.  Local resident access to Hales Lane will be available from Vallecito Road and east on Via Real. • The Highway 101 southbound off-ramp at Casitas Pass Road will close for up to 1 month.  The closure will enable the removal of the old Casitas Pass Road Overcrossing and off-ramp improvements. Detour maps can be viewed at SBROADS.com.
• Sewer realignment work in preparation for the Nipomo Drive sound wall.
• Carpinteria Valley Water District will install a new water line on Linden Avenue in preparation for the new Linden Avenue Overcrossing.  Once the overcrossing is built, the water line will be connected over the new bridge.
