On Thursday (Feb 22), a large Eucalyptus tree came down on the sidewalk along APS above the Salinas roundabout.
Fortunately, no one was injured, but it could have been devastating! City workers worked all day to cut up and remove the tree and debris, blocking APS for hours.
The city Arborist determined that the Eucalyptus tree next to the one that came down was also a hazard, so on Friday (2/23) they cut this one down too.
Neighbors have been complaining about these trees for years as they were uplifting the sidewalk and people walking along APS had to walk out into the street to get around them. This was especially dangerous for students walking to Cleveland School and Mothers with strollers.
Remember, SB City Parks Tree Commission will turn down all (or 99 out of 100) applications to take out a tree — ANY tree, dangerous, destructive to infrastructure or otherwise. Be careful with your trees, love them, research them! take them out if they’re problematic, before they get too big to be noticeable.
Who is ‘APS’?
Is APS in the hospital?

I’ve been thinking specifically about all the eucalyptus around our area for a while now. They need to be eliminated. Hear me out.
1. They’re extreme fire hazards. Insurers are cancelling homeowners policies left and right in CA due to fire risk.
2. See above.
3. Same as 1 and 2.
4. They’re non-native. (Wait for the monarch folks to chime in here?)
5. They fall on stuff and require expensive tree “maintenance”.
It’ll probably not happen but I’d love to see them all gone, personally.
I agree completely. A friend of mine had one land on her car driving down the road. Killed her dog and sent her to the hospital.
