Best news I’ve heard all day – thanks for the update. Thanks LAW ENFORECMENT. Can’t wait to see a mugshot. Think twice people before you start tossing around the “defund the police” slogan…
You still don’t grok the meaning of defund.
Huh? Well I know the dictionary definition of “defund”. Defund is to take away money from someone or something.
Alex – So if I’m reading your post correctly, you are saying that “Defund the Police” actually means give the police more money (via training and additional resources)?
The police are already trained and already use social workers if you had a scanner and listened to it you would know this.. If you take away too much from the police how are you going to deal with all those YaHoo’s that have AR-15’S that want some people dead? Have a protest and call them Morons?
Duke, is that what you think I said? Re-read it.
I said re-direct.
Here’s an example–buy one less military style APC, and spend 500k to teach cops how to deal with mentally ill people without force when possible.
12:59–so you’re saying you don’t think we should look at what actually works in policing. You’re saying we shouldn’t consider spending more money on training and less on militarizing our police force? You’re saying that you’re okay with police being put into terrible positions because they don’t have the level of training that they deserve.
And by the way when I said “wackos” I wasn’t referring to people who are against redirecting money to these things, I was referring to people who actually want a society with no cops.
That’s sad, but thank you for posting that update. The police/news have not released any details of the event. As if 2020 wasn’t hard enough, to have an empty seat at the dinner table during the holidays is about as shitty as it gets. I know this personally.
No that is what you said. I’m guessing you meant to say something different… but please re-read what you actually wrote. And your example of buying one less APC and spending money to teach cops is literally calling for additional funding for the police (500k in your example). I see what you are saying… “fund the police with more Money and training”… and I’m with you…. makes sense!
Bizarre that not much is known or being released… the noozhawk article about it made no sense..

6:50–ha, dude, you literally don’t even know what you are “disagreeing” with, you just know that you “disagree”.
Classic.
DukeMunson–personally, I would love to see more money and more training for police, but not to continue ramping up their armaments, rather to ramp up their ability to deal with mentally ill people, special needs people, people who don’t look or sound like them, etc..
I heard stat about how long German police have to train before they are on the street as full fledged cops, and I think it was something like two years. Our people–nine weeks. And then we expect them to deal with the complexity of human problems that they see? With nine weeks? It’s just setting them up to fail.
I agree!!! And it Sounds like we’re both For seemingly the opposite of “defund the police”… we want to fund the police with quite a bit more money and training so that they have the tools, ability and support to deal with the myriad of problems they encounter daily.
Basic, defunding the police doesn’t mean what you are trying to imply. This has been discussed over and over and folks like yourself need start understanding the term rather than constantly throw it at scenarios that do not apply to it. I’m not going to explain it again. Think whatever you wish, but clearly you are incorrect on it’s meaning.
@BASIC what a moron you are! politicizing the murder of a person. pathetic!
I agree with you Basic and Folks like us have our opinions.
Basic–if you embrace being willfully ignorant then that is really your decision. Yes, the dictionary definition of defund is to stop funding. However, in the context o the current discussion around how we police in this country, defund means redirect. Can you find one or two wackos who think that defund means no more police? Yeah, if you want. But that’s really not what the majority of people who support “defund” mean. They mean diverting money to help police deal with mental illness, learn better how to de-escalate, create other resources than traditional policing to deal with problems, etc. If you really look at it, you will see that better training and more emphasis on these things makes police and our communities safer.
I like how you guys who are for defunding call people names like ignorant and moron, and “You Folks” kinda like if we were to say those things we would be seen as racist and Edhat would delete us but they just let you guys call people names it’s OK for some people but not others…”Wackos” I know what your definition of defunding means and I too disagree with it…I also disagree with your name calling and put downs. Call me those names to my face.
