Popular sandwich chain Ike’s abruptly closed their Isla Vista location amid dueling lawsuits before opening their new State Street location.

Situated on the first floor of the mixed-use Icon Gardens building in the 6500 block of Seville Road, Ike’s opened in 2016 to serve to Isla Vista community. With over 55 locations throughout the West Coast, “Ike’s Love and Sandwiches” serves up hearty meat and veggie subs operated by its namesake, Ike Shehadeh.

The Isla Vista store closed on April 13 and a Santa Barbara Sheriff’s eviction notice was placed on the door on April 16.

According to the Daily Nexus, Icon Property owns the building and filed a lawsuit last December against Ike’s claiming they owe more than $42,000 in overdue rent. Shehadeh filed a countersuit against Icon Property claiming a breach of the lease agreement and fraud in the form of concealment. In a court document obtained by Daily Nexus, the countersuit alleges that Icon Property hid important information regarding a mold situation on the premises.

As the legal battles continue, the new home of “Ike’s Love” is scheduled to open next week in the former Subway location on the corner of Mission and State Streets next to 7-Eleven.
