Highway 1 is closed in both directions following a fatal traffic collision near Jalama Road.

At 2:26 p.m. Monday, Santa Barbara County firefighters responded just south of Jalama Road outside Lompoc for a report of a two-vehicle collision.

On arrival, crews discovered a Honda Accord driven by a female, estimated to be in her 50’s, was pronounced dead on arrival. It appears she lost control of her vehicle while traveling north, towards Lompoc, and struck a pickup truck, traveling south towards Santa Barbara.

The Accord ended up 15 feet over the side of the roadway. The male driver of the pickup truck was uninjured.

California Highway Patrol has closed the highway in both directions due to heavy debris on the roadway.

  1. This is the 3RD DEATH on Hwy 1 within a week… Drivers that are driving their 4000lbs. vehicles doing 55MPH+ into innocent drivers (could have been YOU…) One fatality was due to a Mr. BRYAN CHARETTE, from Lompoc driving DRUNK and killing an innocent driver. Draw your own conclusions to the cause of the drivers driving over the line and into innocent drivers… Texting ? Talking? Distracted by eating, drinking or having their dog on their lap…? PLEASE DRIVE and concentrate on DRIVING- Lives depend on you …

  2. I agree COASTWATCH. Too often now there are even wrong way drivers on freeways. Yesterday there was a road rage incident too. I see so many people not paying attention, still texting even talking on the phones. I don’t care if they kill themselves, but when they put other’s lives at risk sorry, go smash into a wall instead.
