On May 26, 2021, Patrol Officers from the Santa Barbara Police Department responded to a local jewelry and pawn shop to investigate a grand theft. Tens of thousands of dollars in precious metals and high-end jewelry were reportedly stolen.
Officers conducted the initial investigation and determined the suspect in this case, Greggory A. Schneider, 45 years old, and a Los Angeles County resident, was a coin and collectable dealer himself. According to the victim, Schneider assisted with an inventory and appraisal of gold, silver, and high-end jewelry in the victim’s shop. Schneider can be seen on security cameras taking a large amount of inventory and placing it into a personal backpack.
Santa Barbara Police Detectives began investigating the case and search and arrest warrants were authorized by a local judge for Schneider’s arrest.
Schneider was located and arrested on June 2, 2021. In his possession he had several hundred thousand dollars in cash.
Schneider was booked in Santa Barbara County Jail for 368 PC – Grand Theft from an Elder (felony). Bail: $50,000. The cash was booked as evidence. The investigation is still ongoing by Santa Barbara Police Detectives.
They do have “several hundred thousand dollars in cash.” EVIDENCE, hoping it doesn’t just disappear.
