How to Report Local Business for Damage?

By an edhat reader

A local mobile detailer damaged my vehicle and is refusing to pay for it. He stated that he is insured but when I asked for the information, he says he can fix it on his own. Obviously, I prefer to go the professional route. He’s since been refusing to provide his insurance information and refusing to pay the quoted price I received from a certified and insured body shop.

Is there a way I can look up his insurance information to contact them and file a claim? And a way to report his business to the city/state?

Thanks for your help!

  1. Good luck. You probably need to pay to fix. I recently filed w Dept of Consuler Affairs: a joke. State Rep from Lancaster area took 2 months, told (unlicensed) Gutierrez St body repair shop to fix damages & paint. Came back to inspect my vehicle. Told me to accept my vehicle as fixed though it was not. Paint flaked off first car wash; w mechanical issues. . The body shop had been paid $19,800 by an insurance company which had no further obligation for payment. I was told prior to accepting a vehicle in the future to pay to have it inspected by a third party mechanic body shop to avoid getting stuck w inept pro shop work w a displayed (expired) license. Three body shops agreed work unprofessional. Chalk it up to live & learn. I’m for less government, more shared community wide info. CA Dept of Insurance, Court System are no better than Consumer Affairs. Simply more Govt Jobs w fat pensions. At least consumers can observe small claims court insanity. I feel for all lacking command of manipulated English language LEGAL usage.
