There is an unruly group of kids on bikes (junior high age?) vandalizing and causing trouble on the Eastside. I’ve seen them yelling, riding down Cota in the middle of the street, stopping to urinate on bushes, and congregating in front of one of their houses in the 600 block of N Voluntario.
The past month they’ve been riding around throwing rocks at cars and houses. This has been reported to the police again and again. One neighbor on Voluntario and Montecito street has been repeatedly targeted. Yesterday he says they caused $1000 in damage to their cars. The police didn’t even respond.
Do you have any suggestions? Why won’t the police respond?

12:44 – when they have nothing constructive or helpful to say, they resort to politics.
Pellet guns…. cameras…… spike strips……. attack dogs……powerful water guns……blow horns……armed security guards………..net traps………play classical music really loud…………forget it…. just move to a nicer hood. Nothing you can do, without some repercussions
A stand your ground law in CA would help. So if you peacefully confront one of those punks you can properly defend yourself if attacked.
You can thank wing nuts for cutting out arts, music – and after school programs that would keep them off the streets.
Oh hell yes, stand yer ground. Getcha some paint spray cans and some rocks, maybe some sticks too.
Millimesa, It’s probably the same same kids- a group of kids on bikes is an unusual sight on these busy streets, especially a disorderly one as you describe.
Mattboy. So true. I looked up some of these new “laws” in CA I heard about, and they are true and ridiculous. The police don’t have to prosecute anyone with less than $900 in damages anymore. Criminals are in the know on the latest and greatest laws. The list goes on and on. No time to look up and post websites because I am too busy working my menial job that the guys may or may not make more than me. (so don’t ask me to site references anyone, look it up yourselves).
Your head is in the sand if you don’t think it’s the result of liberal ideologies AKA politics
Lawn chair and a shotgun.
Deter vandals? In California? You don’t, they have rights than you have.
I am saddened to admit you are right in this approach. Folks just used to do the right thing…now, unless there’s a Vegas blinking sign calling public attention to it, it goes unnoticed.
I think those vandals are effectively above the law in 21st century Santa Barbara. I don’t think there is anything you can do to deter them, let alone stop them. Is moving to a different area a viable option?
You can thank the libs and progressives for effectively clipping your b@lls to do anything about it. Good luck!

You are absolutely correct. It boils down to politics and liberal policies slapping the wrists of criminals……early release, crimes under $950 not being prosecuted. I miss the days when little shits like this got their asses kicked. Hope you liberals enjoy the toxic environments you’ve created.
The police can’t be bothered with this ? …Yet I got a lecture and threat of ticket for getting caught in the rain on State St and quickly & safely crossing to the other side “NOT” at the crosswalk… I explained that there were zero cars in either direction. So why was he stopping me ? Because he was sitting on a coffee shop patio & it was all too easy to power trip on a woman.
