There was a “call to action” protest [Wednesday] in Isla Vista organized by Food Not Bombs Isla Vista to express their disapproval of the ordinance passed by the Isla Vista Recreation & Parks District last Thursday, May 20, 2021 by a 3 to 1 vote that calls for the removal of the homeless encampment in People’s Park.
In attendance were approximately 20, maybe 25 protesters, they marched from the IVRPD office on Embarcadero Del Mar to the residence of 2 of the IVRPD director’s homes, chanted some slogans & placed homemade signs on the properties. There were no acts of violence, no altercations or confrontations whatsoever.
SACJON you actually seem to enjoy arguing/disagreeing with Rypert, I’d say that’s why you still bother.
Well, thanks a lot LCP112233, now there’s chai tea all over my phone! But all laughter aside, you’re right! That parking lot on the Embarcadero Hall property, which is OWNED by UCSB, and adjacent to People’s Park, that’s the one stop shopping center for meth and smack! I have witnessed so many deals there! The biggest delivery boy is this guy with a white Acura.
No SFGAC055, he just enjoys being wrong on all matters pertaining to the “houseless neighbors” he so seems to love and defend. I think it’s some form of medical condition, but regardless, give the poor little guy a break.
He also seems to eenjoy being the minority in these discussions. For example, just in this discussion alone, 11 commenters, myself included. Of those 11, exclusing myself, 7 responses not favorable to the “houseless neighbors” and their behaviors, 1 response, SACJON, defending the “houseless neighbors” and their behavior and 2 “mixed” responses, including your response. Homie is clearly on a losing streak and he knows it.

RYPERT – I have not yet once defended them. You CONTINUE TO FAIL to provide evidence that these protestors have no stake in IV. I could give a rat’s butt about the whole thing, honestly, but i have big ol chip about people making unfounded claims and then flat out refusing to provide any support. Again….. where is your evidence that none of these protestors don’t live in IV or have any interest in the well being of IV? THAT IS YOUR CLAIM, now back it up.

So then surely you want to fund proper treatment programs with our tax dollars to get the drug addicts and mentally ill off the street right? Or do you just want to send them off to the zyklon b showers like a typical Trumpian?
Bottom line. People do not want homeless camps in their neighborhoods that they work hard to pay rent or mortgage.
Look at the pallet program. In of itself successful. Unfortunately there are just as many living just outside the program that are creating problems.
Those there still have access to drugs, alcohol. They panhandles, have a ton of stuff, don’t pick up their own trash etc….
That’s why someone proposed building such programs out somewhere on county land away from people’s neighborhoods.
Get them away from the evils of the street, away from drugs and alcohol.
Those that just need transitional housing the City & County are building or outsourcing to developers. In the meantime put them in mobile homes with their own shores and toilets in government land somewhere where there are buses to get them to & from work.
Those with mental issues & addictions who do not dirk do not need to be near the businesses or near residential neighborhoods.
It is not a right to live here but the government should take care of its residents. Not residents from other cities, counties or states. They need to sent hone it out if the area. It is not a right to live in SB and burden SB residents.
However, out City has not had the leadership skills or strength of leadership to do what is right to protect the hard rifling families or protect those who are in desperate need.
Wipe the slate clean from the administration to the ejected officials. This City is as poorly run as any other Democrat tun city along the Western Seaboard. Heck elect another Dem, but not one tied to the DNC.
20-25 protesters? There’s 2-3x that many homeless just in Peoples Park! Even the average CA voter is fed up with what is going on. Some people are starting to wake up and do their job like LA County Sheriff Villanueva. LAFD said half the fires started in 2021 are due to their homeless population. SB County is likely close to that 50% if you look through Edhat comments on every fire this year.
I’d say about 90% of fires are due to homeless, get them outta here!

“LOLOL! These useful idiots! In a town of over 20,000 all they can draw is 20 or so “protesters” for this “cause” and the reason for that is everyone else watching is convinced these people and the “houseless neighbors destroying our community are WACK!
To begin with, they refuse to face the facts that these “houseless neighbors” they pretend to support, they have been and still are a huge source of problems to the Isla Vista community.
Assaults, battery, prostitution, overdoses, stabbings, thefts, shoplifting, manhunts for violent criminals and even rape, just another day in People’s Park tent city.
Let’s not even mention the environmental harm these “houseless neighbors” have wreaked on environmentally sensitive habitats just in the Isla Vista area alone. Luckily there hasn’t been any fires, but we’re close!
These clowns use lies in an attempt to make their supposed point about the “houseless neighbors” to keep them in place and destroying the area.
They also use signatures from outside of the area on their petitions to support their cause.
Of course people from outside that district will sign their petitions, they don’t want the “houseless neighbors” coming to THEIR area!
The organizations involved in all of this buffoonery are Food Not Bombs Isla Vista, Bonfire Collective and Eco-Vista, they’re all Marxists, anti-cop, anti-homeowner & apparently, anti-common sense.
Look at their facebook and instagram pages if you want a good laugh, wealthy kids from wealthy families pretending to be struggling proletariats.
These organizations seek to make Isla Vista’s parks “safe camping zones” for ANY homeless from ANYWHERE to just show up, set up camp and stay indefinitely or PERMANENTLY.
They also want to make the parks into “food forests” to sustain the “houseless neighbors” living in the filth they create.
But back to the lies they spew, which is their main strategy. Just yesterday many of us received an e-mail from AmeriCorps claiming that the comments made by one of their workers -who “coincidentally” happens to be affiliated with the organizations above- during the May 20 IVRPD meeting were incorrect and basically outright LIES! Any surprise?
This person overtly misrepresented AmeriCorps, as well as their policy and should be either demoted or fired!
But the best part is the “bully tactics” these budding Marxists, all from wealthy families, are using in an attempt to harass and coerce IVRPD board members and staff to change the move out date.
If that happens, which it WON’T, then all resources to assure a smooth transition for the “houseless neighbors” to be placed in shelters will lapse and the community will then be stuck with the tent city.
There’s a ton of stories I can share about these losers, but time will tell all and no, they’re not going to get their way, as I’m sure the IVRPD board is NOT going to rescind their ordinance or change it’s stance on matters.
I also have to mention, the 1 “no” vote for the ordinance, it was made by a board member who has direct and apparent ties to the organizations mentioned above and he is their puppet in place to try and push their agenda through.
So there you have it people, an inside view into the collective mindset of wealthy pseudo-Marxists who are once again backing the wrong player.”
CONSERVATIVESB, the funnier part is as mentioned above, in a town of over 20,000 people, they can only get 20 protesters. Same protesters in last week’s “Cops Off The Planet” protest march. That was an absolute joke!
LOCALSBTOWN, shows promise for the future. The majority of Isla Vista residents, myself included, don’t want these “housless neighbors” in our parks and destroying our community.
Like mentioned above, an area of 20,000 plus people and you can only draw 20 to support your cause… smmfh and LOL!
I will venture to guess not ONE of the “protesters” has a long term stake in the I.V. community or pays property taxes.
COASTWATCH, the answer to your question is NO! They DON’T have a long term stake in the community whatsoever. They come in to earn their political stepping stone, do their harm and leave.
BOSCO, LOLOL! No buddy! They’re kicking them out and sending them your way! Just kidding! The county does have shelter available for these “houseless neighbors” set up, but these useful idiots, they make it sound like there’s no alternative, which is an outright lie.
As mentioned in the comment I quoted, one of the AmeriCorps “employees” that spoke during the May 25 park district meeting, she outright LIED!
But the good thing is AmeriCorps stepped up to the plate, admitted she was wrong in making those statements and violated AmeriCorps protocol as well.
COAST and RYPERT – did you interview and research each of the protestors? I kind of doubt it. Assumptions make an a$$……
SACJON, another little thing I have to say, with respect to your silly (spelled right this time!) little question is these individuals, they try their hardest to protect their identities from the public. I believe a lot of it has to do with their anti-US government positions, but it’s probably so that mommy and daddy don’t see what they are doing on the dime their parents are shelling out for college. By the way, I do have to all, all trust fund kids.
I will keep providing you with factual and exact information, as needed to satisfy your curiosity on matters. I have the name and information on the AmeriCorps individual as well, but I’m just going to leave you hanging, just for fun.
RYPERT – once again, you are unable to distinguish defense from calling you out on assumptions. I’m not defending them in any way. I’m asking how you and Coast are able to determine conclusively that none of the protestors have “a stake” in Isla Vista. You mention a few “leaders,” good for you. But none of that concludes they don’t have a long term stake here, just that they have some wealth. You put so much effort into researching their backgrounds and you still FAIL MISERABLY at proving your assertion. I’m done trying to get reasoning and evidence from someone who wants to kill all the homeless people, which you do, despite being too cowardly to straight forwardly admit.
RYPERT – you have failed to provide any facts indicating these people have no stake in Isla Vista. Keep making up stories about people you don’t know, by all means though.

If each one of the protestors provided a couch or even a floor in their own domiciles for the park dwellers, the problem in Isla Vista would be solved.
True. Everyone who opposes a governed tent city away from people shouldn’t be hypocrites.
Open their yards & homes to host those in need. Feed them, pick up their trash for them.
Stop voicing a stand in something they do not practice. Stop forcing their ideology on the rest of the community.
Lmao Sheriff Villanueva is a corrupt hack who lets his deputies form criminal street gangs. They specialize in drug dealing and armed robberies. That’s the thing, conservatives have never and will never propose an adequate alternative. They scream about a problem and imply or explicitly threaten a forceful crackdown but lack the wisdom to see that approach has already failed for decades.
