High Wind Warning in Effect Through Friday

The National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Warning for parts of Santa Barbara County beginning the afternoon of Wednesday, January 3 through the early morning of Friday, January 5.

NWS expects north winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 60 to 65 mph in the Santa Ynez Mountains Eastern Range, Santa Barbara County Interior Mountains, Southern Ventura County Mountains and Interstate 5 Corridor.

Damaging winds can blow down large objects such as trees and power lines. The weather service warns power outages are to be expected.

“People should avoid being outside in forested areas and around trees and branches. If possible, remain in the lower levels of your home during the windstorm, and avoid windows. Use caution if
you must drive,” NWS states.

It’s also important to avoid hazardous activities that may cause sparks or start a wildfire.
