Are you looking for a way to give back and help shape the future of your local library? Now is the time to get involved by using your time and talent to serve on the City of Goleta’s Library Advisory Commission or the Santa Barbara County Library Advisory Committee. Don’t hesitate, applications are due this Tuesday, June 14.
Goleta and Santa Ynez Valley Library Director Allison Gray said, “Serving on these committees is a great way to become directly involved in the changing role of the Goleta Valley Library in the community. As public libraries change from book repositories to community centers and technology needs are increasingly voiced, Library advisory members and the administration must think creatively on how to provide the many differing types of services that users expect. Being on these committees lets you have a direct impact on your community.”
Here is what each position entails:
Library Advisory Commission – one (1) vacancy for a Commissioner; The role of this Commission is to provide advice to staff and the City Council on matters affecting the Goleta Valley Library and representing the interests of the library’s patrons by recommending programming and services for the library. Eligible applicants must live in the City of Goleta. The Commission meets the first Monday of every month.
Santa Barbara County Library Advisory Committee – one (1) vacancy for a Committee member; This Committee’s role is to advise the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors. It reviews and maintains the master plan for each County library service zone, makes recommendations to ensure adequate library services to all, determines the per capita level of service, reviews budgets, considers site locations and building programs, and reviews the operation of the library. The member represents all of Zone 4, which includes Goleta, Buellton and Solvang. Eligible applicants must live in the City of Goleta.
