Help! Insect Invasion

By an edhat reader

Can anyone help identify this insect that SWARMED my front door yesterday evening, and then through the tiny space around the door into the house? They crawl FAST; do not fly. Some are tinier than 1mm, others as large as 3mm. I can crush them. I did some weeding yesterday & wonder if I pulled up some nest of whatever this is.

I used bug spray around the exterior of the door last night, vacuumed those indoors, and they don’t seem to have flooded back. I’m still finding a few here & there in the house.

Any ideas?

  1. Shame on anyone who still uses “bug spray” loaded with pesticides. Yeah. And if you don’t know what a certain insect is, whether it’s beneficial or not—–just crush it. Tsk.

  2. Take a sample to Ag Commisioners office. Indiscriminate use of pesticides is just wrong and unnecessary when there are Safer alternatives. Soapy water probably would have done the trick.

  3. thank you. I’m a good person, considerate of the environment, doing the best that I can to manage living with the environment and responsibility for those (humans) living within my home.

  4. “Compared to ripping babies from their mothers seeking asylum this is nothing.” While I too am disgusted by this inhumane policy, it is “apples and oranges” to mention it on this thread.
