A couple was rescued by helicopter from a local hiking trail on Friday morning.
At 9:32 a.m., Santa Barbara County Firefighters and an Air Support Unit responded to the Manzana Trail in the Los Padres National Forest.
A husband with dehydration symptoms accompanied his wife who was transported by air to the Santga Ynez Valley airport and then transported by ground ambulance to Santa Ynez Cottage Hospital, reports County Fire Captain Scott Safechuck.
Further details on the incident were not available.
Dehydrated at 930am? What happened there? Hopefully they’re all ok, and will be donating to a local charity or something. Cell phones have pluses and minuses.
More irresponsible people!
Seriously. Dehydrated? The Creek is raging. Do they have to pay for this air Uber service?
Drinking water from a creek could put you in the ER .
Never drink water from a natural source that you haven’t purified, even if the water looks clean. Water in a stream, river or lake may look clean, but it can still be filled with bacteria, viruses, and parasites that can result in waterborne diseases, such as cryptosporidiosis or giardiasis.
Grateful for our search and rescue. And glad the couple had their cell phones and called when they felt dehydrated. We don’t know the details. It ‘s a good reminder to everyone to bring water and prepare and don’t get shamed into not asking for help.
Lovesbalot: Backpackers typically carry water purification devices–I don’t know anyone who doesn’t! Maybe they were just day-hiking? If so, seems awfully early to be dehydrated.
Not drinking water from a creek can also put you in the ER. I would take my chances drinking from the Manzana creek (and have)
To concur with LOVESBALOT I once saw the most amazing vivid green moss growing in a stock tank out in the Cuyama Valley while trail riding, and cattle and horses were drinking the water, so I put some moss in a baggie and brought it home hoping to grow this new beautiful color of moss in my home fountain. The resultant explosive diarrhea from three 200 pound Irish Wolfhounds had to be seen to be believed. Beware rural water!
More irresponsible people !
And it’s just the beginning of the season !
