A rescue helicopter medically evacuated an injured 70-year-old man from the Guadalupe Dunes Thursday morning.

At 8:45 a.m., Santa Barbara County and Guadalupe firefighters responded to the Point Sal and W. Main Beach area. It was determined the patient needed to be transported from the area with an alternative vehicle as the fire engines could not reach the location due to sand.

Helicopter 3 responded but had difficulty locating the patient due to a heavy fog layer. Vandenberg Air Force Base was dispatched to help but the fog then cleared and Helicopter 3 was able to locate the patient.

The man was hoisted into the helicopter and flown to Marian Medical Center with an ankle injury.

  1. “Elderly” man? Seriously, Ed!
I, and I’m sure many others here, hate to tell you, but people are living far longer than they did back in the 20’s & 30’s, you whippersnappers.
70 is just getting into full retirement for some and the going is full speed ahead.

  2. Seems like all of you over 65 are quite sensitive. Legally, a 70yro is considered elderly. Might as well embrace it and enjoy your medicare and senior discounts instead of complaining online… oh wait, elderly people do all of the above!
