One lane of Highway 101 northbound near San Ysidro Road is closed due to pavement repairs.
Early Friday morning Caltrans engineers reported to the area to begin repairing a section of damaged concrete.
The number two (right) lane was closed before dawn as crews began the emergency highway repairs. The pavement was removed and replaced as motorists were alerted to expect additional delays while traveling north towards Montecito.
As of 10:00 a.m. Friday, Caltrans announced the first layer of asphalt had been installed. Upon cooling, a second layer will be placed before the lane can re-open.
“This is emergency work, not planned as damage to the highway was observed overnight,” Caltrans District 5 states on their Twitter page.
A full lane opening will be announced when the project is complete.
Northern traffic is currently backed up from Montecito to Linden Ave in Carpinteria.
Good to learn that it was an urgent repair & not a planned closure.
