Heat Advisory Issued Through Friday Evening

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a heat advisory for a large section of Southern California through Friday.

As of 1:10 p.m. Thursday, NWS issued the heat advisory to be in effect until 7:00 p.m. Friday, October 6.

The majority of San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Ventura, and Los Angeles Counties are included in the advisory area.

Hot temperatures may cause heat illnesses to occur,” NWS states, “Temperatures will remain hot into Saturday and the advisory may be extended.”

Residents are encouraged to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

NWS provides the following additional tips:

Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances
Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside.
When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening.
Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when possible.

To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments.
