DANGEROUS HEAT OVER SOUTHWEST CALIFORNIA THROUGH TUESDAY

HEAT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM PDT THIS EVENING

* TEMPERATURES…Highs from 95 to 105 away from the coast.
Overnight lows from 55 to 65 except around 70 in the hills.

* Impacts…The very high temperatures could create a dangerous situation in which heat illnesses are possible. Temperatures inside vehicles, even if the windows are partially open, can quickly rise to life-threatening levels.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS

Take extra precautions through Tuesday if you work or spend time outside. When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water. Never, ever, leave people or pets in enclosed vehicles, even for a short period of time.

GUSTY SANTA ANA WINDS THROUGH WEDNESDAY OVER LOS ANGELES AND VENTURA COUNTIES

A moderate Santa Ana wind event is expected to bring northeast winds gusting to 40 to 60 mph over much of Ventura and Los Angeles Counties through Wednesday. The winds should be strongest
today with isolated wind damage and power outages possible.

Strong high pressure in combination with the offshore winds will produce record setting high temperatures across southwest California. High temperatures today will again be between 95 and
105 over a large area, even within a few miles of the ocean. People living in coastal plains without air conditioning should take precautions to avoid heat illness and heat stress. Low temperatures will remain in the 70s to lower 80s in breezy locations. This is a very unusual late season heat wave and should not be taken lightly!
