Assemblymember Gregg Hart secured $425,000 for the planning of the City of Buellton’s section of the Santa Ynez Regional Trail. The funding was recently announced as part of the 2023-24 California State Budget.
This funding will go towards planning work for the section of the trail that is intended to run between River View Park and Avenue of Flags, where it will then cross to the south side of the Santa Ynez River and continue towards the unincorporated area and City of Solvang.
“I am incredibly proud to have played a role in securing this funding. The City of Buellton Santa Ynez Regional Trail will expand access to areas of the Santa Ynez Valley that are impossible to experience from our roads and existing trail networks” said Hart. “This trail will connect the cities of Buellton and Solvang, promote healthy activities, increase alternative transportation options, and reduce vehicle miles traveled.”
Hart partnered with Senator Monique Limón to secure this funding and presented a check for the project on Thursday at The Willemsen Dairy in Buellton along with County Supervisor Hartmann and Buellton Mayor David King.
“Access to our parks and trails is critical for the mental and physical health of our community. The Santa Ynez River Regional Trail will open up new outdoor opportunities for our families, children and community members. I am proud to have supported Assemblymember Hart’s request for this needed funding,” said Senator Limón.
“The Santa Ynez River Regional Trail has been a priority of the Buellton City Council for many years,” said Buellton Mayor David King. “Our efforts to acquire easements along the river have been fruitful, and this funding allows the City to move forward with the first segment of the trail that will eventually connect Buellton with Solvang and Santa Ynez. We thank Assemblymember Hart and Senator Limon for their efforts in securing this funding for Buellton and the Santa Ynez Valley.”
Hart represents the California Assembly’s 37th Assembly District, which includes Santa Barbara, Goleta, Carpinteria, Buellton, Solvang, Lompoc, Guadalupe, Santa Maria, Orcutt, and Nipomo. He currently serves as the California Assembly’s Assistant Majority Leader under Speaker Robert Rivas.
