Goleta Man Drowns Off Ventura Coast

By edhat staff

A Goleta man drowned off the coast of Ventura while lobster fishing on Sunday.

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office received a call from the Coast Guard about an aluminum skiff about 10 to 12 feet long adrift at 9:26 a.m. The Coast Guard then searched for the owner and found a body floating near the mouth of the Santa Clara River, reports the Ventura County Star.

The victim was identified as 60-year-old Goleta resident Scott Escalera. He was apparently lobster fishing in a borrowed boat and was last seen leaving the Ventura Harbor at 4:00 p.m. Saturday.

He said the cause of death is thought to be drowning, but it is still being investigated.
