UC Santa Barbara Athletics is hosting a watch party for local Gaucho fans to cheer on the Men’s Soccer Team as they take on Wake Forest Saturday afternoon.
The Gauchos have made it into the NCAA Tournament’s Third Round and must beat the fourth-seeded team to move on. The last time the two teams met was on September 21, 2008 where Wake Forest triumphed with a 6-2 win.
What began as the team’s first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 2015 has blossomed into a potential third College Cup appearance in program history. The Gauchos rebounded from the disappointment of losing the Big West Tournament Final at UC Davis with three consecutive victories. The Gauchos avenged their early season 3-0 loss to Cal by defeating the Golden Bears 3-1 in the first round.
Then, UCSB shocked Saint Mary’s in the second round, dealing the Gaels what was just their second loss in the past two seasons. Most recently, UCSB got its revenge for the 2004 College Cup Final by bringing Indiana’s 38-game home unbeaten run to an end.
Watch parties at two locations will begin at 2:00 p.m. Saturday to cheer on the team. Locals can watch the game at Dargan’s Irish Pub (18 E. Ortega Street) and Eureka! (601 Paseo Nuevo). The game will also be broadcast live on ACC Network Extra, WatchESPN, and the ESPN app.
