A donation website has been created for the family of Carlin Dunne, the local motorcyclist who died in a race collision on June 30.
Dunne, the 36-year-old who owned the Ducati of Santa Barbara dealership, was competing in the Pike’s Peak International Hill Climb (PPIHC) in Colorado when he crashed near the finish line. He had previously won the event four times.
PPIHC organizers created the GoFundMe online fundraising account to support Dunne’s mother, Romie Gallardo, to help with funeral expenses and to honor Dunne’s memory. “His loss is felt throughout the international motorcycling and racing community… He was loved, respected and admired by all those whose lives he touched,” the fundraising page states.
The PPIHC Board of Directors have donated $932 to represent Dunne’s estimated time of 9:32 had he crossed the finish line, which would have been a new motorcycle course record, beating the current by 12 seconds. PPIHC invites people to do the same and states this is the only official channel for donations and support. As of Friday, over $55,000 has been donated, more than half of the $100,932 goal. Following the race, at the Awards Ceremony on Monday, competitors paid tribute to Carlin as a mentor, a friend, a competitor, a racing icon and spoke of the impact he made on their lives.
