At approximately 1:50 a.m. this morning, August 26, 2018, Sheriff’s deputies responded to a residence in the 2800 block of Exeter Place in Santa Barbara to a report of a male and a female subject who were not breathing. When deputies and Santa Barbara County Firefighters arrived, they located approximately 30 people inside the residence. The group was attending a post-wedding celebration at the house, which had been rented for the occasion.
The patients, a male and female in their late thirties from the Long Beach area, displayed symptoms of an opiate drug overdose. An additional male and female, also in their late thirties from Long Beach, began displaying the same symptoms and were treated as well. The patients are believed to have snorted a white powder from an unknown source. No drugs were located inside the residence. Paramedics administered Naloxone to all four patients and they were subsequently transported to the hospital.
Naloxone Hydrochloride, more commonly known by the brand name NARCAN®, blocks the life-threatening effects of opioid overdose (both medications and narcotics) including extreme drowsiness, slowed breathing, or loss of consciousness.
All Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s deputies receive training on the use of Naloxone. This lifesaving training is accomplished through the combined efforts of the Sheriff’s Office and the Santa Barbara County Emergency Medical Services Agency.
Vacation Rental Gone Bad. People often rent short term vacation rentals because there is no oversight. Renters count on it. They do things they would not do in their own homes , or subject their neighbors to, in short term vacation rentals. These rentals are illegal and a pox on our community. They don’t belong in our neighborhoods. I hope someone has reported the owners and the City or County take action against them. I bet their neighborhood would be appreciative.
Exactly! Agree wholeheartedly w sbcountylocal. Not a fan of those illegal hotels subjecting neighbors to a what seems to be, at times, a never ending, unpredictable parade of questionable clientele . I live between two. Close to reporting.
Tri-fecta of Terribleness: (1) out of control short-term party rental house in a residential neighborhood; (2) idiot drug abusers; (3) costs to our local law enforcement and emergency health service to bail them out.

Hmmm….. interesting. I bet none of you thought they’d be our hero’s the firefighters!
Gosh, how underpaid are our “heros” so that they can afford a pricey party house in Mission Canyon and do lines of recreational drugs.
Top paid Long Beach Fire Battalion Chief makes $387K a year, and the rest of them are right up there. Party on, heros.
Long Beach – enough said.
Illegal Drugs & Vacation Rentals. The combination harm our community in more way that one. They steal housing from residents, increase housing costs, are neighborhood nuciances and most homeowner’s evade taxes. Drugs can harm mental wellness, decrease productivity, reduce job options and get you fired. Neither are good for our community.
Not, since this is in the County and none the mentioned have any say so there. This is exactly why one doesn’t find any legal short term rentals in the City of SB.
It’s just too bad that LA treats Santa Barbara as it’s weekend getaway party pad. Maybe we should put those stoplights back on 101 and narrow it down to 1 lane each way between here and Ventura (sorry to all my commuter friends)….
SBCOUNTYLOCAL – Hate to burst your bubble here, but people who would snort an unknown white powder that may or may not be heroin, would do it in their own house as well. It’s not like people like this only do this in other peoples’ homes.
Me too thought it was coke PCP on Thorzine grad…How shocking responders responding to responders.
why don’t they random drug test firefighters & police?
One more “gift” from the vacation rental industry-taking a home in a high fire area and turning it into a party house where this type of behavior is now routine. Can’t wait till this and other STRs are a bad memory of the past, before they do much damage
LOCALINSB & SHASTA GUY – there are plenty of “local” drug abusers partying in fancy houses all over SB. Reducing vactation rentals and narrowing the 101 will not stop any of that.
Oh please. Turning a quiet residential street in a canyon into a regular entertainment venue, is insane
