Forward Progress Stopped in Brush Fire East of Lompoc

Firefighters responded to a brush fire east of Lompoc that sparked Saturday afternoon.

At 2:34 p.m., Santa Barbara County firefighters responded to the 3100 block of Avena Road and reported a structure fire may have spread to nearby grass. 

It’s currently 3-5 acres of light grass with the potential to spread to 40 acres. Air Support is on the scene.

One structure has been damaged with the threat of damage to nearby structures.

At 4:00 p.m., the Santa Barbara County Fire Department stated the forward progress of the fire had been halted. Cal Fire Air Tankers returned to base and 46 firefighters will remain on the scne for mop up.

The fire was approximately three acres. The cause is under investigation.
