Santa Barbara County Firefighters have stopped the forward progress of a brush fire in Ballard Canyon that threatened structures.
The fire broke out just before 1:00 p.m. Saturday near Los Olivos on Tapadero Road in the Santa Ynez Valley. The first arriving engine reported 5-7 acres in grass with a slow rate of spread. and at least one structure threatened.
Additional engines and air support was called to the scene as a 2nd Alarm was called. Roads were also closed in the area.
The fire grew within the hour to 15-20 acres with the potential to spread to 30 acres. Fixed-wing air tankers and helicopters made water and phos-chek drops as crews protected three structures.
At 2:15 p.m., firefighters got a handle of the fire and announced the forward progress of the fire was stopped and the structures were not affected.

A fire broke out in the upper regions of Ballard Canyon late morning on Saturday, October 31. Fire crews were on hand quickly and shortly thereafter a jet tanker with fire retardant and helicopters with water arrived. The fire threatened the Stoplman Vineyards and tried to make a run up the canyon towards Los Olivos but was stopped.
