A gas leak in the former KMart building in the 6800 block of Hollister Ave in Goleta prompted evacuations Tuesday morning.
At 10:36 am Santa Barbara County firefighters responded to 6865 Hollister Ave where construction crews on scene reported a ruptured gas line that was actively leaking gas.
The building was evacuated and all nearby buildings were advised to shelter in place. The SoCal Gas Company is en route to shut off the gas line.
There are no reported injuries and the cause of the leak is under investigation.
The building is currently being renovated to become a new Target store location.

Ooops. None of the Tierra Contracting guys wanted to pose in the picture? This will be an expensive fix and delay.
Guess who didn’t “Call before you Dig?” Yikes!
People do make mistakes, so who knows if it was USA services with the markings or the Tierra guy running the backhoe? It will be sorted out for sure and the fire dept, et al will invoice appropriately.
