Update by the Santa Barbara City Fire Department
Monday morning at approximately 05:47 hours, the Santa Barbara Police Department Combined Communications Center received reports of a possible electrical fire inside a structure. Santa Barbara City Fire Department responded with three fire engines, one truck company and a Battalion Chief.
The first arriving engine company observed visible flames showing and reported a “working fire.” Additional firefighters were called to the scene based on the volume of fire. Firefighters made an aggressive interior attack and searched the residence for any possible victims.
An SBFD ladder truck crew cut a hole in the roof to allow smoke to be removed from the structure. This common tactic allowed firefighters to bring the fire quickly under control.
Live power lines supplying the residence fell during the incident and temporarily limited access to the structure, until the hazard could be secured.
The residence next door to the involved structure also sustained fire damage due to the close proximity of the main fire.
Santa Barbara Police provided traffic control, closing down Peach Grove for the incident. An AMR ambulance was staged on scene in case any injuries were reported. Mutual aid was provided by the Santa Barbara County Fire Department and the Montecito Fire Protection District with fire station coverage in the City of Santa Barbara. Seven of the eight fire engines for the City of Santa Barbara were on scene for the incident. Two additional City engines were filled by off duty personnel for fire station coverage.
Southern California Edison and the SoCal Gas Company responded to secure their respective utilities.
No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Fire Prevention Bureau, and damages were estimated at approximately $250,000 dollars.
