Firefighters knocked down a fire inside a home under construction in the Mission Canyon area early Wednesday morning.

At 6:44 a.m., Santa Barbara County firefighters received a report of a neighbor seeing smoke coming from a home at 2828 Ben Lomand Drive. Upon arrival crews found smoke and fire in the living space of a single family residence on a single story.

The home has been under construction and no one was present in the residence at the time. Firefighters made access and kept the fire contained to the room of origin, although heat and smoke damage affected the rest of the house.

The cause of the fire is unknown.
