Wicked Little Letters
Directed by Thea Sharrock
102 min – United Kingdom
This British comedy centers on the residents of a conservative English town that begins receiving anonymous profane letters where chaos, hilarity, and shenanigans ensue.
The film stars the incomparable Olivia Colman and Jessie Buckley, as well as a superb supporting cast.
It’s based on a true story from England in the 1920’s centered on two neighbors, Edith and Rose, that lived in a small seaside town. Edith is a pious and religious spinster, who began receiving vulgar letters. Her neighbor Rose, an irreverent and foul-mouthed Scottish gal, was accused of writing the letters. The police arrest Rose and she is faced with prison and the possibility of losing her young daughter. An officer skeptical of Rose’s guilt embarks on a journey to find the true culprit.
This clever, hilarious, quick-witted humor performed by this cast was superb. This movie is a WIN on all fronts.
